ABSS, formerly known as MYOB, licencing is based on serial numbers, and when you purchase an ABSS product, that product is given a unique serial number.
This serial number identifies not only the product, i.e. ABSS Accounting, ABSS Premier or ABSS Payroll, but also certain other characteristics of your licence, like how many data files you are entitled to, whether your product is single or multi-user, etc.
When you first purchase ABSS, you are required to perform a one time registration using the serial number that was assigned to the product you purchased.
Note that each product will have to be registered separately. So if you purchase ABSS Premier and ABSS Payroll, each will have to be registered separately, as each will have a different serial number.
When you create a new company or data file, it can be used for up to 7 days.
To continue using the data file after that, your company file must have been activated.
The ABSS company file activation process confirms your serial number as well as that the data file is within your allocation of data files.
Activation is done online through the ABSS application which connects to ABSS’s licence server to authenticate the licence. You would have to be connected to the internet for activation to take place.
If you do not activate the data file within 7 days, the file will become read-only, which means you can view whatever transactions you have entered, but you will not be able to edit them or enter new transactions.
Periodically, ABSS will require confirmation of your data file. This process re-confirms your serial number and data file.
Once every 90 days, when you open your data file, you may be prompted to do the confirmation. During this period you will have 14 days to complete the confirmation. If you do not confirm the data file, it will become read only.
